Maine Discovery Museum’s special After Hours programming for children on the Autism Spectrum and their families. “My Day to Play” is a free program designed to provide children on the Autism Spectrum with a safe, comfortable environment to explore and to give families who face similar challenges a place to connect. Science Detectives at Maine Discovery Museum

We invite inquisitive minds to stop by our Tuesday morning mini-labs for fun and easy experiments and hands-on demonstrations: magnets, bubbles, ice, water, air, metal; even the greatest scientists started with simple experiments and observations. These special chemistry, engineering, and physics workshops are designed just right for the pre-school age child. Each session starts with finding the science questions, an introduction of the tools and procedures followed by safety instructions. After about 10-20 minute guided inquiry the lab ends with…

Every Wednesday little artists can experiment with new, fun painting tools, bright colors and practice their sequencing, spatial reasoning, fine motor, and problem-solving skills important for pre-reading and pre-math! Each session starts with a short demonstration of the project and tools followed by free exploration and creating time guided and encouraged by our staff and volunteers. Nature Time at Maine Discovery Museum

Budding naturalist and biologists can go on nature excursions without ever leaving the museum. Get up close to some of MDM’s amazing live animals, pelts, claws, shells, bones, rocks and more. Each session starts with an introduction of the specimen or nature science discovery followed by guided gentle exploration and lots of time for science conversations.
