The Cuisine of Egypt

The first stop in the worldwide culinary journey will be at Hilltop Dining on April 11 with the cuisine of Egypt. The next stop is a culinary tour of Peru at Wells Central on April 18 and finally diners will enjoy tropical cuisine from Trinidad and Tobago on April 25 at York Dining.

The foods of Peru will be showcased at Wells Central on Thursday, April 18, where menu items will include Peruvian potato chips with a selection of dips, grilled corn with cheese, a spicy chicken soup, Cebiche with a plantain shell, braised pork adobo and a cookie/cake layered pastry named Alfajor capullano.

UMaine Dining uses local foods and produce in its recipes, including the international cuisine for Taste of the World. A part of UMaine Dining’s mission is to raise awareness of the value and sustainability of supporting locally sourced produce and products. In addition, special care is made to include foods that vegetarians and vegans can enjoy.

You don’t have to be a student with a meal plan to attend these events. Anyone can enjoy the all-you-care-to-eat menus for $14.22 per adult; $6.47 per child 12 or under. For UMaine community members who wish to use Dining Funds or Black Bear Bucks, the rate is $12.63 for adults and $5.69 for children under 12.
