Foraging @ Hirundo Wildlife Refuge
July 23 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Deb Soule is an herbalist, gardener, teacher and author of The Woman’s Handbook of Healing Herbs and How to Move Like a Gardener. Raised in a small town in western Maine, she began organic gardening and studying the medicinal uses of herbs at age 16 alongside the internationally known medical herbalist Mary Bove. In the fall of 1985, with her first mail order catalog and a small selection of herbal extracts and teas, Deb launched Avena Botanicals at the Common Ground Fair in Windsor, Maine. Avena Botanicals, located in Rockport, Maine, makes herbal products using fresh, organic & biodynamic herbs. Their herbs are hand-harvested and immediately processed on-site.
Deb Soule will be our guest presenter for the second Foraging Workshop offered by Hirundo Wildlife Refuge this year. She will be discussing both edible and medicinal plants, with an emphasis on common medicinal plants that we tend to think of as weeds. Soule has devoted her life to working with and understanding the healing benefits medicinal plants and biodynamic gardens offer individuals, families, and our planet. She focuses on using nourishing herbs, flower essences, whole foods, and meditation as part of her consulting practice. Deb’s faith in the healing qualities of plants includes a desire to make organic herbs easily accessible to women and families living in rural areas. She holds a Deb B.A. in Human Ecology from College of the Atlantic, Bar Harbor, Maine.
